How It Started

Meet the Authors

In 2020, the entire world suddenly found itself at home. For Chandra, a single mom, and her four-year-old son William, that meant living, working, learning, and playing in what sometimes felt like a 300-square-foot box. Chandra was working for the U.S. Army as an OSINT Data Manager while attending the University of Missouri full time for a degree in data science, which meant William spent his days hearing a lot of what Mom was working on.

One word kept coming up: data. After hearing it again and again, William finally asked, “Mom, what is data?” Chandra excitedly explained it, only to realize he didn’t quite understand. So she went on Amazon to buy him a book that could explain it in a way he would understand and quickly discovered there wasn’t one.

So she did what mothers do when there’s a problem: she solved it. That one question started a four-year journey that led to the publication of the first Data Detective book in 2024. What began as a way to teach her son has grown into a series reaching kids around the world, with more books and adventures still to come.
